what to do in đurđevac
Every guest who stays overnight at Malia gets free entry to the Croatian Sahara (Đurđevački peski), the Đurđevac Town Museum and the Interpretation Centre in the Stari grad fortress. That is a real saving and a good reason for a day trip.
Đurđevački peski is a reserve that was given the status of a special geographical and botanical reserve in 1963, and its sand is a remnant of glacial deposits. Stari grad is a fortress from the 1480s, today with a museum and a centre dedicated to Picokijada, a traditional event held at the end of June, since 1968. The central event is the Legend of the Picoki, the story of how the people of Podravina fired the last rooster from a cannon at the Turks.
