a discount for new guests: a code with rules you can share on social media

livvi

How to create a Livvi discount code for new guests only, with dates, a minimum number of nights and a limited number of uses, and add it to an Instagram or Facebook post.

You post your free dates on Facebook and add "10% off". A few people get in touch. One asks if it works for a single night, another wants it for August, a third has stayed with you before and expects the same deal, and a fourth saw the post on a friend's profile three weeks later and assumes it's still on. A discount that was supposed to bring in someone new turns into a string of messages and one-off arrangements.

what a discount without rules costs you

First, money. A discount that applies to everyone, at any time and for any length of stay easily ends up on dates you would have filled at full price anyway.

Second, time. Every question about the discount is another message and another round of explaining the terms.

Third, confusion. When the terms aren't written down anywhere except in your head, nobody knows exactly what applies: not the guest and not you. And in the end you don't even know whether the discount brought anything in.

how livvi handles it

In Livvi you create a discount code once and set its rules right away. Under "Who" you choose who it applies to: all guests, new guests, returning guests or a saved audience. If you want to reward someone booking with you for the first time, you limit the code to new guests. For people who have already stayed with you, you can create a separate code; we wrote about that in A discount for returning guests without haggling in messages.

The limits protect your earnings: a minimum number of nights, a minimum booking amount, and how many times the code can be used in total and per guest. You also choose booking and/or stay dates, so the code only applies to the period you actually want to fill.

To share the code on social media, you turn on "Public / for sharing". This is also where you decide whether it can be combined with other offers.

Once it's in your post, you no longer explain the terms in messages. The rules are built into the code. And in Livvi you can also see how many bookings and how much revenue each code brought in, so you know whether the discount paid off.

Example (illustrative, not a real case): code FIRSTSTAY, 10% off, new guests only, for stays in November, minimum 3 nights, 5 uses in total, public for sharing and not combinable with other offers.

how to do it

  1. In the app, open Marketing → Discounts.
  2. Choose a percentage or a fixed amount and enter the value. The code is generated automatically, and you can change it to something easy to remember.
  3. Under "Who", choose new guests or a saved audience.
  4. Choose the property or units and, if you like, booking and/or stay dates.
  5. Set the limits: minimum nights, minimum amount, total number of uses and uses per guest.
  6. Turn on "Public / for sharing" and decide whether the code can be combined with other offers.
  7. Check the summary and click "create discount code".

All the steps are in the guide How to create a discount code.

how to add the code to a post

You don't have to type the code into the text yourself. Open Marketing → "Share and promote", pick a template (e.g. "Fill open dates"), the property, unit and dates, and add the discount code in the post settings. Click "generate" and you get a ready-made text with hashtags and a booking link, which you copy and post on your own Instagram or Facebook.
